How To Play Texas Hold’em

Thanks to big-money tournaments televised or streamed online, Texas Hold’em Poker is one of the most popular card games in the world. You can find Hold’em tables in land-based casinos, or at online and mobile establishments. Trusted gaming sites will provide a list of online and mobile casinos offering the game.

Basic Hold’em Play

The dealer changes for every hand, shifting one player to the left. The player to the left of the dealer must bet a small blind before the deal, and the next player places the big blind. The big blind is usually the same as the minimum bet, and the small blind is half that.

Once the blinds are in, the dealer deals to the left until all players have two cards, face-down. These are the hole or pocket cards, which only the player can see. They need to make the best five-card Poker hand by combining their cards with the five pool cards that are dealt next. First, however, players must examine their hole cards and decide whether they are strong enough to bet on.

Four Rounds Of Betting

If the hole cards aren’t strong enough, the player can fold at this point, losing any blind bet they’ve already placed. If they feel their hand has potential and they have the budget, they can call or raise. Betting proceeds around the table to the left, and once all players have folded or called, the dealer deals three cards into the middle of the table.

This is the flop, the first of the pool cards. Players can use any of the cards in the pool, combined with their hole cards, to create a winning Poker hand. After the flop, another round of betting commences. If all players but one fold, the remaining player wins the pot. If there are still at least two players left after another round of raising and calling, the dealer draws another pool card, the turn.

After another round of betting, the final pool card, the river, is dealt. Each player now has a pool of seven cards, from which to select the five best. A final round of betting occurs until all players have called or folded. If the hand is called, the players reveal their hole cards and the winner is determined. As you can see, it is a bit more complicated than playing NZ slots for real money, but for many, this is its appeal.

Ranking Poker Hands

The lowest hand in Texas Hold’em Poker has no winning combinations; if this is the case in all the called hands, the one with the highest card wins. A high card can be beaten by a pair, such as two 5s or two Qs. Two pairs are stronger, and the highest pair wins if more than one player has two pairs. If two players end up with two identical pairs, the player with the higher fifth card wins. Any drawn hands see the pot split between the players with equal hands.

Next is three of a kind, followed by a straight: five cards in sequence, of any suit. A flush beats a straight: that’s five cards of the same suit. A full house is better: three of a kind plus a pair. In ascending order, the highest hands possible are four of a kind, a straight flush and a royal flush. A straight flush is a straight in one suit, and a royal flush is 10 to A in one suit.
